At the 67th Smetana Litomyšl Festival, Technical Director & Stage Designer Fred Peng and Prague integrator @lightneq delivered exactly that—pairing LED profile light and compact washes with a discreet layer of architectural RGB laser lines. Rig Overview: LED Profiles, Washes & Laser Lines
Three bridges (FOH, mid, rear) plus two wings kept angles consistent and coverage honest. LED profile light and ellipsoidal stage light handled FOH key and framing with shutters to erase spill. Moving head stage lights provided compact top/side volume. For architecture, a modest RGB laser projector drew pencil-thin façade lines and brief logo cues—classy, minimal, and music-first.
Laser Layer: Safety, FB4/ILDA & Facade Use
The laser role here is architectural—not club beams. We lock non-audience zones, cap output, and follow EN 60825 practices. Using FB4 laser control on the same network as the console keeps cues musical: ILDA-grade geometry, fixed scan fields, and bar-number references. Think of it as a precision pen for architecture.
Colour & Programming That Respect the Score
Base whites sit around 3200–4000 K with tiny magenta/cyan trims so cameras match human eyes. Chorus and strings get gentle cool top light for separation; soloists land in warmer theater spotlight moments. Laser accents only appear at transitions: a two-second line reveal or a small crest dissolve—tasteful and brief.
Set Up DMX & Auto-Play on Power-Up
Step 1: Address & Patch. Assign unique addresses to each fixture; use waterproof DMX and a 120 Ω terminator on the last unit.
Step 2: Scenes & Cues. Capture positions, colour, gobos, and laser frames; build a cue list with dwell times and fades.
Step 3: Auto-Playback. Enable “Power-On Action” on the console, select the cue list, and power-cycle to test. Keep a USB show file for instant recall.
